When the structure protection task force arrived we took the Division Supervisor and Task Force Leader on a driving tour of the area to help them better understand what they were getting into which would allow them to formulate a plan for Walker/Potato Patch.
There were a few areas, just a few, that they were very impressed by the effort (time and money) put in by some home owners and they were dismayed at how little had been put into many other properties.
We will have more to say on this shortly but a crucial point of understanding here is that we dodged a serious bullet.
It basically came down to one make or break day with this fire.
In the Yarnell Hill Fire in 2013, there were 65 homes in the burn area that had been mitigated. 61 of those 65 survived.
