WFPA Needs A Volunteer For The Board Of Directors

Received an email from Johnny O.

Hello fellow Walkerites…HELP!

The Walker Fire Department, (WFPA), still needs at least one more candidate
to step up and run for next years board of directors position, (starting
June 1, 2018). We have (3) members stepping down as of the end of this
term, and only have two candidates offering to help.
This is […]

Crash on New Strike

We had the very rare experience of hearing sirens this afternoon.

A 4 wheel UTV misjudged a turn and rolled into a ravine between Walker Road and New Strike.

Walker Fire Department was on scene, along with Yavapai County Sheriff.

Neighbors passing by saw the accident happen and helped pull the driver from the vehicle, then went to […]

Fire and Power Outage – Power Line Broke at 4:05am

We lost power to our cabin at 4:05am this morning.

Our generator kicked on and we went back to bed, unaware that our Walker Fire Department was out in the cold and snow, at 4:00am, putting out this electrical fire.

APS restored power at about 9:30am.

Walker Fire posted these photos to their FaceBook page.

Emil From Roger, Walker Fire Department Chief

As everyone probably knows we have had an usually warm and dry winter which
creates visibility for an early start to a very long fire season. There
have already been fires in the southern part of the state. Roughly 90% of
fires are human caused whether that is intentionally or unintentionally
which means that our safety relies extensively on […]

Walker Fire Dept. Fire Season Warning

We got an email from the Walker Fire Dept. this morning.

Usually at this time of year we start to hear about expectations for the upcoming fire season from the US Forest Service and for 2018, expectations are for a bad fire season.

The expectation for last year’s fire season was greater […]

Walker’s Second Snow Of 2018

We got about 6 inches of snow last night night, Saturday, Jan. 20.

This morning was sunny and bright, but still cold. We had a low of 18 degrees at our house.

As I drove out this morning, about 11:00am, there were 2 vehicles behind me on Walker Road.

As we came up to the hill about a […]

Power Outage in Walker 10:00pm Jan. 15th

Power Outage in Walker 10:00pm Jan. 15th.

Nothing on the APS outage map, but Walker WiFi is working fine on battery backup.

We’re up and running on our generator. Not another light in the valley that I can see.

Leave a comment if you know something.

10:20pm – APS […]

SUV Rolled Over Near Fire Station

As I was leaving on Sunday morning, about 11:15, I came upon an SUV that had rolled over into the ditch on the side of Walker Road, just across from the fire station.

Sheriffs and Walker Fire were there, directing traffic. No ambulance, but people standing around, so I assume no one was hurt.

A […]
