Walker Fire recently acquired a new command vehicle.

It was on display at the WFPA Annual Meeting on May 29th, 2021.

From Roger Nusbaum, Fire Chief:

Walker Fire recently added a 2012 Chevy Suburban to its fleet that is being called Squad 81. Squad 81 will be a multifunction vehicle. It will carry extra hose, fire tools and medical supplies. Being smaller than a typical fire truck it can help as the first vehicle in to assess safe ingress and egress in some trickier areas where roads are especially windy and narrow.

It can also help transport firefighters to incidents where half dozen fire trucks are unnecessary. A perfect example was the Misty Mountain Fire in December 2020. As firefighters arrived at the station they brought more fire apparatus turning the road nearest the fireground into a parking lot of unused fire trucks. That incident required one fire truck and two water tenders. Squad 81 helps with this sort of incident which has occurred other times too.

In short, the addition of Squad 81 greatly enhances Walker Fire’s operational capacity. Thanks to the community for making this addition to our resources possible.
